Nepal's Generation Z Agrees to Meet Authorities After Clashes

Nepal's Generation Z youth have agreed to meet with authorities this Friday following clashes in recent hours with alleged supporters of the previous government, which led to the imposition of a two-day curfew just two months after unrest that left more than 70 dead in the country. The chief of Bara district, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, informed EFE that the meeting between members of the youth movement and authorities will take place this Friday at 16:00 local time (10:15 GMT).

Threat from the Youth The meeting comes after the youth threatened this morning to resume protests if arrests of sympathizers of the former ruling party, who were demanding, were not made. Chief Superintendent of Police for the same district, Santosh Tamang, explained to EFE that officers ultimately detained three followers of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML) who participated in the assault on Generation Z youth this Wednesday.

«A formal legal process has been initiated against them,» stated the officer.

According to the police, the situation returned to normal this Friday, shops reopened, and traffic resumed, although there remains a heavy security deployment on the streets.

Clashes on Wednesday Clashes broke out on Wednesday, with the arrival in Simara of two leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal, which led to confrontations with Generation Z members near the airport and the imposition of a curfew that paralyzed air activity. Protests continued on Thursday, leading the administration to reimpose the curfew in the city of Simara.

«Protesters defied the order, which led to clashes in which four protesters and six officers were injured,» added the police superintendent, who indicated that police fired six tear gas rounds and two warning shots after the crowd began throwing stones.

September Protests In September, protests led by the youth movement known as Generation Z turned violent, leaving more than 70 dead and forcing then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal, to resign in less than 24 hours. Nepal is currently governed by an interim administration headed by Sushila Karki, the first woman to hold the post, appointed with the support of Generation Z to lead the country to elections scheduled for March 2026.
